National Minimum Wage in Mauritius

New Regulations regarding the National Minimum Wage in Mauritius

 

The Government of Mauritius released a Government Notice No.1 of 2018 regarding the National Wage Consultative Council Act 2016.  The regulations made by the Minister under sections 8 and 23 of the National Wage Consultative Council Act 2017, the National Minimum Wage is now law in Mauritius.

Below is a summary for the new minimum wage in Mauritius.

The National Minimum Wage Regulations 2017 provides for the payment of a monthly national minimum wage of Rs 8,140 from January 1st, 2018 for all full time employees.

For 2018

All Employees (save and except those working in an export oriented enterprise), shall be entitled to the national minimum wage of Rs 8,140 over and above the wage compensation of Rs 360, that is to say Rs 8,500 a month.

They will also receive an allocation of Rs 500 paid by Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) which would bring their monthly income to Rs 9000.00.

As for the employees working in export oriented enterprises, they will have the right to the national minimum wage of Rs 8,140 a month which already includes the wage compensation of Rs 360. They will receive an allocation of Rs 860 paid by Mauritius Revenue Authority bringing their monthly income to Rs 9000.00.

Part-time employees will also benefit from the new national minimum wage and will be calculated on the basis of the monthly number of hours of work.
